TREASURES OF THE BARNIM PANORAMA

The collections of the Agricultural Museum Wandlitz form the centrepiece of the BARNIM PANORAMA. A large number of exhibits – from prehistoric and protohistoric finds to sizeable agricultural machinery – tell the tale and preserve the history of the landscape, its agriculture and its people.

img 2sp agrarmuseum damals 04

Agricultural machinery, tools and implements, household objects, textile items, documents and photos reflect farm work, the everyday life of farming families and the agricultural history of Brandenburg, especially over the past 250 years.

A multiple-furrow moldboard plough with a mounted wheel from the end of the 18th century is one of the oldest objects in the agricultural machinery collection. It corresponds to the archetypal land plough that was used for centuries to till the soil.

The highlight – not only for technology enthusiasts – consists of the historical tractors and heavy machinery. The impressive 19th and 20th century items in the collection include a Heucke Lokomobile steam plough, a HANOMAG WD Z 25 crawler tractor, and the first German combine harvester to be built in series – a CLAAS-MDB.

Exhibits of agricultural machinery from former East Germany, including the first self-propelled combines and the first potato harvester from the 1950s, as well as tractors – from the »Brockenhexe« to the ZT 323 – illustrate the agricultural machinery and tractor industry from the beginning to the end of the German Democratic Republic.

Hardly any museum can show all the objects in its possession at the same time. Many items have to remain – barely noticed – in the depositories. With the “museum-digital” project, Brandenburg museums are presenting lots more of their "treasures". The BARNIM PANORAMA has joined in with 38 objects from the exhibition and the collection, focusing on the topic “Rural crafts”. You can look at these here.
