Nature and agriculture – the two major themes of the BARNIM PANORAMA, shaped the structure of the building. The design by the architecture office rw+ combines a traditional construction method with the latest in modern architecture to form a unique and sustainable ensemble of buildings.
The imposing structure reminds one of the characteristic square farm complexes that have buildings on three of its sides in Brandenburg consisting of the main house, animal housing and a barn. It thus offers a fascinating framework for the agricultural history collection. Nature conservation was taken into account consistently during building – typical regional tiles and renewable materials such as wood and straw were used. The clear form and highly efficient energy concept point to the future. There is also a unique feature – as a zero-emission building the Museum can be operated on a CO2-neutral basis.
When designing the outdoor facilities, attention was also given to preserving the existing trees and planting local plants and timbers.
This exceptional performance won a special prize, one of the Brandenburg Building Culture Awards 2013.

Optically the scene is dominated by stone and wood materials that create a spirit of tension between »cold« and »warm« areas.
A photovoltaic plant on the workshop roof generates more electricity from solar energy than the Museum uses.
The facade has a large wooden cladding, and the roof is covered with wooden tiles.
